Spiritual Nutrition is a form of both integrative and holistic nutrition. "Spirituality" is the awareness that everything is connected.  "Nutrition" is the provision of materials (food) necessary to support life. (Wikipedia)

Human nutrition, or nourishment, takes on a spiritual aspect when we become aware of our connection to the foods we eat.

With the exception of perhaps the last fifty years, humans have been intimately connected to the production, preparation, and sources of our food.  From hunter-gatherers, to farmers and ranchers, to the homemakers who went to the local farmers markets and butchers nearly every day - we knew where our food came from, who grew or butchered it, and that it was truly fresh and nutritious.

Today, gardeners who grow and harvest their own foods - especially if it organically grown without chemicals - know the difference in taste, quality, and nutritional value of food they have a personal relationship and connection with.  Foods that are purchased from grocery stores, even if they are organic and natural, cannot nourish us spiritually and physically the way homegrown foods can.  Buying locally grown organic foods is a step in the right direction.  Even then, it is best to buy at farmer's markets, where we get to meet and know the people growing our foods.

Why is this so important?  After all, isn't nutrition just about the vitamins, minerals, proteins and carbs we get from eating fruits, vegetables, meat and grains?

Remember our definition of nutrition: provision of materials necessary to support life.

The key phrase here is "to support life".  Life is a quality that animates physical matter. While vitamins, minerals and protein are all forms of physical matter, not all of these forms are "alive".  In fact, most of these so-called nutrients, which come to us in the form of packaged and processed foods, are actually quite dead.  If the definiton of nutrition is "to support life", how can things that are dead be considered nutritious?

The human body is extremely resourceful, and given dead matter as food, it will do its best to use this matter to grow and sustain itself.  However, if we are interested in Spiritual Nutrition - nutrition that supports Life and enhances our awareness that everything is connected - then we must pay attention to where our food comes from, how it is created, and that it is alive.

The spiritual and metaphysical dimensions of nutrition are not just theory or ideas.  Science has also discovered that humans need more than just the macro and micro nutrients commonly associated with a proper diet.

Biophotons - bits of light energy found in living plants, as well as in animals - have been found to play a vital role in supporting the health and well being of cells and the immune system.  These biophotons can only be found in fresh fruits and vegetables that are still "alive".  Meat, of course, will not supply biophotons unless it is also eaten fresh and uncooked. Perhaps this is why fresh high quality Sushi appeals to people who can feel the energy when consuming raw fish.

Another more recently discovered quality of food that has a powerful impact upon cells in our bodies, is the electromagnetic energy emitted by fresh living foods.

Anything that is alive creates its own electromagnetic field.  In humans, this field is created by the Heart.  This field contains energy and information that turns DNA on or off, and tells cells how to grow and which functions to perform in the body.

Plants and animals that are grown and cared for by humans receive information from the human Heart, impacting the cells of those plants and animals, and effecting the quality of nutrition obtained by the humans who consume them.  Gardeners who grow their own food, without disrupting the process with artificial chemicals and fertilizers, will gain the greatest nutritional benefits from eating plants (and perhaps animals) that have come to "know" the humans who cared for them.

Vegetables, fruits, and animals that are raised on modern indutrial style farms do not have the benefit of loving human interaction, and therefore cannot provide the people who eat them with beneficial electromagnetic energy or signals.

In fact, food produced in this way has been found to emit a "dead" signal - like static from a radio or television that is not tuned into a clear signal.  Such foods may fill the belly and provide temporary relief from hunger, but it cannot "support life".  Eating such foods over the long term results in illness, and eventually death.

If you want to enhance your own Spiritual Nutrition:

To increase your own awareness of and connection to the foods that will support your life I would recommend that you read books like "The Energy of Life (Ringing Cedars Book 7)" by Vladimir Megre , "Conscious Eating" by Gabriel Cousens, M.D. , and "Spontaneous Evolution" by Dr. Bruce Lipton.
