"Why do some people get ill while others remain in the best of health? The external situation is the same ...  but the primary cause - the imprints laid down on the mindstream by previous actions - is internal." - Ven. Pende Hawter

You are probably familiar with the concept of karma, which literally means action. All of our actions lay down imprints on our mindstream which have the potential to ripen at some time in the future. These actions can be positive, negative or neutral. These karmic seeds are never lost. The negative ones can ripen at any time in the form of problems or sickness; the positive ones in the form of happiness, health or success.*

Karmic Health Issues

by Master Stephen Co

If all our thoughts and actions come back to us in some form, is there a causal relationship between a health problem and some action we have taken or not taken? The answer is, . . . possibly. With physiological cause and effect, it’s easy to see the relationship. If you have a family history of heart disease and diabetes, and yet you are overweight, have high blood pressure, and refuse to make more healthful life choices, you are likely to reap the consequences, or karma, of your actions: heart attack, stroke, circulation and eyesight problems are just a few.

Most severe health conditions are due to “cosmic” cause-and-effect. In esoteric philosophy, it has long been held that if one causes pain to fellow human beings or is cruel to animals, one may develop some type of ailment that causes great pain. Other health problems are believed to result from bad actions such as lying, cheating, and stealing.

How to Resolve karmically-related health problems

1. Learn our lessons. Practice inner reflection and meditation to find out a possible cause of the ailment and suffering. Make reparations to the extent that you can. For instance, if you determine your neck spasms were caused in part because you were a “pain in the neck” to your parents when you were growing up, you need to make amends for your actions. Begin by sincerely apologizing and asking for forgiveness.

2. Practice the law of forgiveness. If you intend to seek forgiveness for some past action or inaction, you need to practice forgiveness with others who may have hurt you. As it is written in Matthew 6:14: “For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.” This step might include releasing any grudges you hold against someone who wronged or hurt you. Some peo-ple hold so much anger and resentment that without forgiveness, no matter how much healing and medical attention is received, the ailment persists.

Remember, we are all evolving, and evolution involves time and mistakes. If we are entitled to learn from our mistakes, so is everyone else. Forgive and be free, forgive and start living instead of wallowing in the mud — no matter what the reason is! Forgive, even if it is for self-preservation.

3. Practice the law of mercy. In Matthew, 5:7, we read: “Blessed are the merciful for they will be shown mercy.” We can start giving money to organizations like the Red Cross and Union Rescue. As our donations help save lives and help alleviate suffering, tremendous amounts of “good kar-ma” is generated that will boomerang back to neutralize our own negative karma. This has been practiced by spiritual disciples since ancient times. The alternative is to work out karma through suffering.

Finally, while many emphasize the “negative” or “punishment” aspect of the law of karma, there is a better and more positive way to view it. GrandMaster Choa Kok Sui, the modern founder of Pranic Healing and Arhatic Yoga says “The law of karma is the spiritual technology to create and navigate your future!”

We realize we can take actions to create new positive causes and expect positive effects. We are indeed blessed to have the law of karma to allow us to learn from our mistakes and grow. We can also use this powerful tool to create the future we want by simply planting the right seeds to get the harvest we want! **
