Pain Is Resistance, Nothing More

Lately, I’ve been thinking about pain and what it represents to us. Ultimately, I’ve found that pain is resistance, and nothing more.

Sure, we equate pain to sources like illness, injury and disease. If we are dealing with emotional pain, we often can identify triggers in relationships, our childhood or our personal beliefs.

Certainly, if we go digging for a source of our pain we find something. Unfortunately, the more we dig for the root of our problem, the harder things often get.

Thanks to the Law of Attraction, the more we focus on our pain, the more resistant we become and the more pain we experience. It’s a vicious, vicious cycle.
A simple cause to what feels like a complex problem

If you are dealing with pain right now, I’d like you to simply consider the idea that your pain is resistance, and nothing more. It’s just resistance, and if you can find a way to release the resistance, the pain will evaporate.

Relieving yourself of pain can be a lot simpler than we often make it. If all we have to do is release resistance, this takes a lot of the guess work out of the equation.

If all we have to do is release resistance, we don’t have to worry about all of the latest treatments, all of side effects of the possible treatments and all of the hundreds of opinions on the source of our pain.

Pain can be attention-grabbing (and that’s why it often sticks around!)

Now, though this is a simple idea, it can be challenging to process at first, especially if your pain is profound. I get it! It’s hard to “ignore” pain, be it physical or emotional pain.

Pain has a way of grabbing our attention and holding on. Naturally, if you are in severe pain, and a doctor or a therapist is bringing you relief, do whatever you have to do to get that relief! Sometimes treatment feels like the best option, and when this is the case, by all means follow your gut and do what you have to do.

However, keep an eye out for this phenomenon in your life: notice how when you have a moment of elation or laughter, your pain becomes greatly reduced or completely disappears altogether.

Have you ever noticed this? When you are fully distracted from your pain, it goes away. It vanishes, even if for just a few moments.
Pain is resistance, nothing more

This is because your pain is just a sign of resistance. When we are focused on our pain, we are resisting the life giving energy that keeps our bodies and our spirits elevated. When we are engaged in something highly interesting or in a state of joy, we are resistance-free, so we feel good all over.

Now, I don’t write this article to trivialize or belittle your pain, because lord knows I know how bad pain can feel. I just write this to help you navigate through it with greater ease.

Obsessively trying to figure out how to alleviate your pain will bring more pain, as it keeps you focused on the resistance. Finding a way to focus on tapping into a fun or comforting distraction, however, will bring you relief.

Getting into a state of happiness is ideal, but ultimately, finding any source of comfort is what is important if you wish to move out of resistance. If being happy is too big of a stretch from where you are, just try to reach for thoughts and activities that make you feel a little better.

Focus on pleasure as much as you can

So if you are suffering right now, I invite you to give yourself permission to put your happiness first.

Do some things you enjoy, take it easy and relax. Do whatever you can do to get yourself into the flow of life as much as you can. It’s ok if you get sucked back into the pain here or there, so don’t worry if it’s not a perfect journey right out of the gate. If you are dealing with severe pain you may find that this happens for awhile because the pain has built up momentum. Be easy about it and be gentle with yourself.

Just keep doing your best to put your positive emotions first, and cheer yourself on for any positive momentum you notice. The more you allow yourself to get caught up in life’s simple pleasures, the better you will feel. The better you feel, the more good feelings will be attracted to you through the Law of Attraction.

Let your pain become a “back burner” issue as much as you can. It’s there, so don’t try to push it away, but remind yourself that the pain is just resistance. The more you focus on pleasure over pain, the better you will feel.

You can overcome ANYTHING, and you have the ability to tap into the joy and happiness that will bring your body and/or emotions back into balance. Always remember you have that power within you.
