Have you ever seen unexplained shadows in a place where the light is at the wrong angle or not strong enough to cast one? If so, it’s possible you have encountered a ghost. The most common tropes in paranormal stories involve either liminal space (doorways, hallways, windows, stairs, coming out of corners or around corners. they like to look at you, but they don’t want you to see them. They want to remain hidden from view so they’re hoping when they peek around the corner, you’re not looking. Those who try to rationalize these occurrences will say it could just be hallucinations causes by scientific conditions or manifestations of one’s own fears and anxieties, vision problems whereas the brain is guessing wrong due to conditions of filtered light and filling in the gaps or just plain normal tricks of the light enhanced by imagination or eye conditions like Palinopsia or simply eye floaters. These explanations occur because most experiencers will claim they see these things in their peripheral vision so the explanation is logical but what about those who see them straight why have so many people had the experience?

What have people said about these strange occurrences?

“I have recently seen similar shapes run across the floor of my flat at night. In fact I saw one earlier tonight and found this post because of it. I saw one a couple of months ago too. It was a disturbing vision as the shape was blurry and like a shadow. On both occasions its scurrying was silent and a very smooth movement. I do have floaters in my eyes and I’ve thought that these shapes could be an extension of that. I’ve tried to recreate the vision but haven’t managed to do so. The shape was rat sized but I’m almost certain if it was a rat I would have heard its movement. It was an unpleasant event and I cried out on the two occasions it occurred. I will be sleeping with the light on tonight.” – Wayne Mac – https://www.quora.com/Why-do-I-keep-seeing-illusions-of-black-things-moving-on-the-ground-under-my-feet-and-in-the-corners-of-my-room

“I saw the blur go across the baseboards of my work shop. Grabbed a flashlight and chased it, found nothing. The next morning, I went out to start my truck for work, about 6:00 a.m., as I got about 4 feet from the truck, a shadow figure stood up from the other side. Blocked out the neighbors porch light. No features that I could see. It stayed about 2 seconds and it took me about that long to get the courage up to go around the truck and look. No noise whatsoever. I found no evidence of anything. No footprints in the frost.” – Ol’ Beau – https://www.quora.com/Why-do-I-keep-seeing-illusions-of-black-things-moving-on-the-ground-under-my-feet-and-in-the-corners-of-my-room

In the paranormal community, these fast-moving, shadowy figures are often referred to as “shadow people” or “shadow figures”. Interpretations of their nature vary widely:

  • Some believe they are spirits of the deceased or inter-dimensional beings.
  • Some perceive them as malevolent entities that feed on fear.
  • Others see them as neutral observers, spirit guides, or protectors.

In certain religious and spiritual belief systems, persistent or intensely frightening shadowy figures are believed to be demonic. These experiences are often accompanied by other signs, such as:

  • A strong, oppressive sense of dread or evil.
  • Physical phenomena like strange noises, objects moving, or significant temperature drops.
  • Attacks during sleep, like sleep paralysis or being pushed.
  • A sulfurous or foul odor.

Some individuals with spiritual practices like shamanism or those who consider themselves clairvoyant may interpret the sightings as a sign of heightened spiritual sensitivity.

Note: If you believe the activity is spiritual in nature, you may consider seeking guidance from a spiritual leader or religious expert. Many spiritual paths offer resources for discernment and dealing with negative spiritual energies. A good Paranormal Team or expert can also be helpful in ruling out possible causes.

Advice for approaching the experience:

  • Rule out medical conditions: A sudden increase in floaters, flashes of light, or any other vision changes warrants an immediate visit to an eye specialist. If you suspect any underlying mental or physical health concerns, consult a doctor or psychiatrist.
  • Evaluate your lifestyle: Consider if stress, anxiety, or sleep deprivation could be a factor. Improving your sleep hygiene and managing stress can alleviate some symptoms.
  • Explore spiritual interpretations: If medical causes are ruled out, and you still have concerns, you may wish to seek guidance from a spiritual or religious leader. Some traditions recommend actions like blessing the home or using specific prayers to address unwanted spiritual activity.
