Seeing different colors during meditation is a very common occurrence, but witnessing Blue Light is considered a special and auspicious sign. If you perceive a deep blue color or light in the depths of your meditation, understand that you are progressing in the right direction on your spiritual path.
From spiritual and psychological perspectives, this can have several deep meanings:
1. Activation of the Ajna Chakra (Third Eye)
According to Yogic science, there are seven major chakras in our body. The ‘Ajna Chakra,’ located between the two eyebrows, is associated with the color indigo or deep purple.
- When your energy (Prana Shakti) rises upward and touches the Ajna Chakra, the seeker often perceives a blue light.
- This indicates that your level of concentration has increased significantly and you are becoming more introspective (turning inward).
2. Deep Mental Calmness
In Color Psychology, blue symbolizes peace, stability, and coolness.
- When thoughts in the mind begin to settle during meditation and the brain shifts from the ‘Beta State’ (active/rushed) to the ‘Alpha’ or ‘Theta’ State (deep relaxation), the color blue often appears.
- This demonstrates that your internal mental noise has subsided and a sense of ‘stillness’ is settling in.

3. Experience of ‘Chidakasha’
In many Yoga traditions, the blue space that appears after crossing the initial darkness seen when closing the eyes is called ‘Chidakasha’ (the Sky of Consciousness). Just as the external sky is blue and infinite, our inner consciousness is also infinite. This blue light is a glimpse of that very Infinity.
4. Divine Presence (Sattvic Quality)
In Indian spirituality, the color blue represents ‘Pure Sattva’ (Vishuddha Sattva) and divinity. Lord Krishna and Lord Shiva are also depicted in blue, symbolizing their vastness and depth. This light is also an indicator that you are coming into contact with a higher power or the ‘Guru Element’ (Guru Tattva).
What Should the Seeker Do Now? (Important Advice)
Many seekers get thrilled upon seeing this light, while others might get scared. Here are some necessary precautions:
- Do Not Analyze: Do not get entangled in logic like “Why is this appearing?” or “How long will it last?”
- Remain Detached: Do not try to hold onto this experience. If it appears, good; if it disappears, that is also good. Observe it merely as a ‘Witness’ (Sakshi).
- Do Not Stop: Seeing blue light is a ‘milestone,’ not the destination. Do not stop your practice upon seeing this; rather, let the meditation go even deeper.
Conclusion:
Seeing blue light in meditation indicates that the purification of your body and mind is taking place. This is a moment for celebration, but not for ego. Continue your practice; even deeper states are yet to come.
